LLANELLI WIN WELSH CUP

Llanelli AFC finally brought the domination of Bangor City FC over the Welsh Cup by winning it. The victory brought to an end their opponents' superb run in the competition, Bangor having lifted the trophy in each of the last three seasons thanks to a run of 23 Welsh Cup ties without defeat. The side coached by Neville Powell were also been crowned Welsh Premier League champions last week, but they were always on the back foot at Parc Y Scarlets, falling behind to well-placed headers from Rhys Griffiths and Craig Moses in the first half.

Alan Bull reduced the arrears early in the second half, but Llanelli were not to be denied as Griffiths took his total to 29 for the season and Chris Venables completed an emphatic scoreline. "Bangor won the league, but this was our day today and we'll be celebrating tonight," said Llanelli player-manager Andy Legg. "Rhys Griffiths has played with a bad hamstring and still came up with two goals, but that's the sort of character he is."

Antonio Corbisiero, who was voted man of the match, added: "We were down after losing the League Cup final [to The New Saints FC] on Monday but we got together on Thursday, worked on our set pieces and all credit to the lads and the manager."
